Why do crown prices vary so much?

The material, who makes and fits the crown, and the work needed on the tooth beforehand explain most of the gap. A prosthodontist (a specialist in crowns and bridges) usually charges more than a general dentist.

  • Material. Nuffield Dental prices porcelain-fused-to-metal from S$1,035.50 and zirconia from S$1,417.
  • Specialist or general dentist. Denticare charges from S$1,526 for a prosthodontist's crown, against S$872 for its lowest general crown.
  • Preparation. A tooth may need a root canal first. Under the CHAS benchmark, molar root canal treatment is S$872 to S$1,400 before GST.
  • GST. Some clinics quote before GST, some after. Compare like with like.

Can I use MediSave for a dental crown?

Ordinary MediSave does not cover crowns because they are not a surgical procedure, as Specialist Dental Group notes. From 2026, Singaporeans and PRs aged 60 and above can use Flexi-MediSave of up to S$400 a year for permanent crowns and root canal treatment.

According to Royce Dental Group's July 2026 guide to the scheme, Flexi-MediSave can be used at CHAS-accredited and Flexi-MediSave-accredited dental clinics and public healthcare institutions, and can be combined with CHAS for eligible procedures. It does not cover cosmetic work. Check your clinic's accreditation before treatment.

Is a crown cheaper at a public hospital?

Not always. MOH lists public institution fees from S$804 to S$1,491 before GST, which overlaps with private general clinics. Specialist private practices cost more.
