In Singapore, home tuition typically costs S$25 to S$130 an hour (2026), depending on the student's level and the tutor's profile. Lessons for JC and IB students with current or former MOE teachers, and polytechnic or university tutoring, can reach S$120 to S$150 an hour. These figures come from tuition agencies' own published rate tables.
There is no government fee schedule for private tuition. The agencies on this page say their tutors set their own rates, so the tables are guides rather than fixed prices. All figures below are hourly lesson fees taken from each agency's rates page. Where GST is mentioned, it applies only to the agency's share, covered further down.
How much does home tuition cost per hour?
Published hourly rates start at about S$25 for pre-school and lower primary with a part-time tutor. Secondary lessons run from about S$35 to S$105 an hour, and JC or IB lessons from about S$50 to S$150, with school teachers at the upper end.
Agencies split their tables by level and by tutor type: part-time tutors, full-time tutors, and current or former MOE teachers. The table below shows the lowest and highest bands each agency publishes on its rates page. Agencies update these tables, so check the live page before booking.
| Agency | Lowest published band (per hour) | Highest published band (per hour) | Other published bands |

What does home tuition cost per month?
Most families book one lesson a week, so monthly bills run from about S$240 at primary level to around S$400 to S$570 at Sec 4 and JC level. The examples below assume four weeks of lessons a month and use the agencies' published hourly bands.
| Example | Lesson pattern | Estimated monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| P5 student, full-time tutor | 1.5 hours a week | S$240 to S$330 |
| Sec 4 student, ex-MOE teacher | Weekly lessons | S$420 to S$570 |
| JC student, part-time tutor | 2 hours a week | S$400 to S$520 |
These are our own calculations from published hourly bands, not quotes from any agency. Your tutor may charge more or less, and the first month can be paid differently because of how agencies take their fee.
What changes the price of home tuition?
The student's level and the tutor's profile matter most. A JC lesson with a current or former MOE teacher can cost several times as much as a pre-school lesson with a part-time tutor. Lesson length, frequency, format and booking length also change the total.
- Level: rates rise from pre-school and primary through secondary to JC, IB, polytechnic and university.
- Tutor type: agencies publish separate bands for part-time tutors, full-time tutors and current or ex-MOE teachers. At the same level, the teacher band sits highest in the tables reviewed.
- Hours: the monthly bill scales with lesson length and frequency. Moving from 1.5 to 2 hours a week adds a third to the bill.
- Online or at home: SmileTutor says online lessons are typically S$5 to S$10 an hour less than lessons at home.
- Short courses: SmileTutor lists a 25% agency charge for crash courses under eight weeks, and MindFlex lists 25% for arrangements of 11 weeks or less, so short bookings follow different fee terms.
Do you pay an agency fee for home tuition?
Most agencies describe matching as free to parents, but they are paid out of the first lesson fees. Typically the first two weeks' fees, or half of the first month's, go to the agency instead of the tutor. Read each agency's terms before the first lesson.
| Agency | How the agency is paid | GST |
|---|---|---|
| FamilyTutor | Parent pays 50% to 62.5% of the first four weeks' fees to the agency. Cancelling the first lesson costs one lesson's fee. | Advertises "$0 GST" |
| MindFlex Home Tuition | First two weeks' fees go to the agency. Short-term arrangements of 11 weeks or less: 25%. | On the agency portion only |
| SmileTutor | Free to parents. First two weeks of lesson fees go to the agency. Crash courses under eight weeks: 25%. | On the agency portion only |
| Tutor City | 50% of the first month's fees, charged to the tutor but paid by the parent. Rate fixed for the first month. | Terms say there are no other charges |
| TutorAnywhr | Not published on the rates page reviewed | Not stated |
| TutorBee | Says matching is free with no contract. Fee split not published on the rates page reviewed. | Not stated |
Before the first lesson, ask the agency to set out in writing how much of the first month's payment goes to it, whether GST is added, and what happens if you cancel or ask for a different tutor.
Is GST charged on home tuition?
Where the agencies reviewed mention GST, it applies only to the agency's share, not to the tutor's ongoing lesson fees. SmileTutor and MindFlex charge GST on the agency portion of the first two weeks, while FamilyTutor advertises "$0 GST".
Some older agency pages still quote an out-of-date GST rate, so confirm the current figure with the agency when you receive the first invoice.
Which home tuition agencies publish their rates?
The six agencies below publish hourly rate tables on their own websites and are listed A to Z. All are matching agencies: they connect parents with tutors and say the tutors set their own rates, so a quote can fall anywhere within the published band. Confirm current rates on each agency's own rates page.

How should you compare home tuition quotes?
Compare the hourly rate, the hours per month and the agency's first-month terms together. A lower hourly rate with a larger agency share can cost about the same in the first month as a higher rate elsewhere, so look at the full first invoice.
- Confirm the level and tutor type the quote is based on, since bands differ widely.
- Ask for the hourly rate and lesson length in writing.
- Check how much of the first two weeks or first month goes to the agency, and whether GST is added.
- Read the cancellation and tutor replacement terms before the first lesson.
- Ask whether online lessons are offered at a lower rate.
