What is the difference between ROM, pre-wedding and actual-day photography?

ROM coverage is a short session at the solemnisation, usually an hour. A pre-wedding shoot is a styled session before the wedding, sometimes overseas. Actual-day coverage follows the wedding day itself for four to twelve hours, so it costs the most.

Many couples book two or three of these. Bundles that include a gown, makeup or videography can cost less than booking each separately, but check exactly what the package includes, such as the number of edited photos, albums and delivery time.

What changes the price of wedding photography?

Hours of coverage are the main driver, followed by how many photographers attend, whether videography is added, and extras such as albums, makeup, gowns or overseas travel. Experienced photographers with a strong portfolio also charge more.

  • Hours. At The Aurora Wedding, a 4-hour half day starts at S$1,248 and an 8-hour full-day package at S$3,118.
  • Second photographer. Full-day coverage often uses two photographers, which raises the price.
  • Videography. Adding a videographer, or a combined photo and video team, adds cost. Darren and Jade and Colossal Weddings both offer combined photo and film packages.
  • Styling extras. Gown rental, makeup, bouquets and car decoration are often sold as add-ons.
  • Location. Overseas pre-wedding shoots, such as Bali, cost more because of travel and longer sessions.
  • Day of the week. Some packages are priced for weekdays only.

What should I ask before booking a wedding photographer?

Ask for full galleries from real weddings, not only highlights, and get the package terms in writing: hours, number of photographers, edited photo count, delivery time, overtime rates and deposit terms.

  • How many edited photos will we receive, and when?
  • Is the price nett, or is GST added?
  • What does overtime cost if the day runs late?
  • Who will actually shoot our wedding?
